Another series that represents Mono no Aware very well is Aria. Especially Akari's thoughts on matters lean very much in that direction.

Going into that final episode, all I could think of was "What's going to happen to Sora?" So I was a little afraid to watch it. But the way they handled it, Sora, happy in her mother's arms, then switching to characters five years later, who still remembered her, celebrating her life rather than narrating her death, it was one of the most beautiful endings in anime I've ever seen. Agreed, one of the best shows of the year.

Great post, and not just because I agree that Natsu no Sora is one of the best shows of this (or any other) year. Thanks for pointing out the mono no aware of it.

The only thing I disagree about is that I know girls (and guys) like Sora do exist. Maybe not completely without selfishness, but with the kindness far outstripping it. I mean, why not be kind? Is being selfish any more fun? Not really.
